Okay so today brings Mermaid, which is a mystical-ish poem, about memory, and the special significance a place can have to that. The particular way that we associate a particular place with a person or the memory of them. It’s also my second coast poem, and goes back again to childhood memories and the magic of the British coast.
There’s a rock on the beach,
That spends half it’s time covered
By the waves and sea frost,
Though it returns to shore with the tide.
A crystalline fortress
Covered in remnants
From its steadfast voyage,
In coastal breeze.
She jumped from it, into cool waters
To swim amoungst the sea-folk,
Those who made this ever-changing,
Everlasting beachhead symphony, home.
Themselves as varied as the waters
That wrap themselves around them,
Waxing and waning and roaring.
Though she left us a while ago,
Onwards soaring into skies,
There’s a part of her
That Still remains,
jumping from that
Into cool waters,
In the spray of fresh seafoam.
