Night’s slow embrace

Takes the last of our hope

As the chill comes over the horizon,

Death and frost hand in hand,

Skipping towards us with merry abandon

As we huddle together,

In the dark places,

Clinging to the last drops

Of light and warmth,

In each other’s arms.

We will survive the night.

Together we will live,

Take these fragments,

Small and sparkling,

Make new life within.

From the tiniest spark

Of savoured flame,

We will blaze again.

This dusk-born desperation

Embraces us, we cling,

Hand grasping hand,

We are united,

We will keep our spark

Alive ‘til dawn sweeps the horizon,

Bringing back our warmth

In quickening tide of kindling light.
