Hello 🙂 it seems like it’s been an age since i’ve put anything up that wasn’t fey/faerie poetry, but i do write other things sometimes! This one is called Rockpools, and is one of two seaside poems i’ve written (not sure why now, past the end of summer, but still.. )I haven’t been to the beach for years, but i spent many happy holidays down in Cornwall as a child exploring the rocks, caves and sand. Also rockpooling was the best thing, obviously, and finding life in the water left by the tide is really exciting.
Rockpools
Pondering through the rocks on the beaches
With hope and desire for life
To find, not to eat,
Just to wonder at,
In search of fascination.
There’s a hermit crab,
He keeps changing clothes,
Happy we’er he sets his home,
Moving on
When he outgrows,
To new shells,
New pastures.
Our feet break on barnacles,
Hidden in the dry air
Their life a secret,
Ironclad.
Until the waters late return,
As still as the dead.
We hold our nets like battlelances,
As we trek across the pools,
In search of life and ‘venture
On barren English shores.
